QN1803 (also known as 304D) is a new type of high-strength stainless steel recently developed [1]. It is the first nitrogen-containing austenitic stainless steel. Compared with the commonly used stainless steel EN 1.4301, it has higher corrosion resistance, lower costs due to its lower nickel content (estimated at 20%), and higher yield stress (estimated at 40%). The chromium content of QN1803 stainless steel ranges from 17.5% to 19.5%, which is similar to the chromium composition of S30408 stainless steel. This shows that QN1803 stainless steel exhibits similar anti-corrosion properties as S30408. Therefore, QN1803 has the potential to be used as an alternative to EN 1.4301 for large steel structures.
